Specialist Option (SBWL) in Management Information Systems

In the course of all future Bachelor study programs at the WU (BW, IBW, VW) students may choose to attend a Specialist Option. The Institute for Management Information Systems and the Institute for Information Systems and New Media offer the Specialist Option in Management Information Systems.

To enroll in the Specialist Option (SBWL) in Management Information Systems students must prove previous knowledge equivalent to the courses "Introduction to modeling" ("Grundzüge der Modellierung") and "Introduction to programming" ("Grundzüge der Programmierung"). For students participating in the Information Systems Program both courses are mandatory. Students from other study programs may choose to attend the Special Subject (Wahlfach) "Grundzüge der Modellierung und Programmierung" to acquire and/or certify knowledge in these areas.

The above mentioned knowledge is tested via an exam consisting of two parts (one part for each of the two courses). Students must then present their accumulative report card ("Sammelzeugnis") in the SBWL basic course ("GK I") to prove they achieved a positive result in both parts of the exam. Students can only take part in the SBWL course (GK1) after successfully passing the exams in "introduction to modeling" and "introduction to programming.

Note that it is also possible to acquire equivalent knowledge externally (e.g. from another university). In case an external course is accepted ("Anrechnung"), the corresponding grade is added to the student's accumulative report card.
