About Bernd Simon

Bernd Simon is associate professor at the Institute for Information Systems and New Media of WU, Vienna University of Economics and Business, and managing director and co-founder of Knowledge Markets, a university spin-off providing IT and consulting services for knowledge-driven organisations.

In his professional activities he is involved in research in the area of technology-enhanced learning and knowledge management. He has been specifically contributing to areas such as
•   design and assessment of learning environments,
•   interoperability of knowledge repositories,
•   success factors and business models for technology-enhanced learning.

As managing director of Knowledge Markets he has been consulting clients such as the Austrian Ministry of Education, Daimler AG, Erste Group, Wolf Theiss, and the World Bank. Bernd is one of the initiators of the e-learning environment Learn@WU, Austria’s largest university e-learning platform, and one of the key supporters of the Learn@WU off-spring LMS.at, Austria’s most intensively used electronic media in primary and secondary education. In 2009, as a result of the research project PROLIX, his team launched 2know2.com, a portal providing IT support and services for organisational and personnel development processes.

In 2011 he got appointed as associate professor based on a "venia docendi" in "Betriebswirtschaftslehre insbesondere Wirtschaftsinformatik". Bernd holds a PhD in Information Systems from WU. He is also a graduate of the International Management Program of New York University's Stern School of Business.

Bernd is father of three girls. Whenever possible he enjoys sports and cooking.
